# Case Study: Jurnal

## Intro

Jurnal Trust Media is the first media holding company in the Republic of Moldova, offering print media, television, radio, and video. The president is Val Butnaru, founder of one of the first independent newspapers in Moldova — Jurnal de Chișinău.

The most painful problems were:
- The lack of a mobile experience
- Speed (both reading and publishing)

We accepted this challenge, even though we agreed to work outside our technical recommendations, including the choice of hosting environment and hardware parameters.

## Websites

Jurnal Trust Media has two web flagships: Jurnal.md (newspaper-turned-news-portal) and Jurnaltv.md (news site with a TV production accent). The news component gave us the most headache, as there was no difference between the news concepts of both sites, except that the TV site has more video. Nevertheless, we managed to create very different UI/UX far from just "changing the colors".

## Mobile

We created a mobile experience from scratch, as it was non-existent. The heavy multimedia load required different UX techniques and backend technologies to engage users without losing functionality, including video and audio experience.

## Architecture

In addition to the design challenge, we had to reconsider all the web infrastructure of the holding to create a new architecture. An additional challenge was the maintenance of old news so they could work perfectly in the new frontend/backend system.
